Bird in Hand History

The Bird in Hand is a traditional village pub set in the heart of Robin Hood Country, in the oldest part of the historic village of Blidworth in Nottinghamshire

Bird in Hand Pub

Originally known as the ‘Bird In Hand Inn’, it was in use as a Coaching Inn and Ale House for travellers and locals alike up until at least 1842 & is believed to be the only pub in Nottinghamshire to have the ‘Bird In Hand’ name.

In 1898, the ‘Bird in Hand Inn’ was sold at public auction to Mansfield Brewery and a copy of the original auction advert is on display in the dining area.

Interestingly, although the Bird in Hand has been run by different tenants & managers over the last hundred years or so, it has always ended up being run as a family business, which is still the case today & perhaps that is why we have such a warm & friendly atmosphere.
